Memorial Day to be celebrated Monday Memorial Day is Monday and residents still plan to attend services, just with COVID-19 physical-distancing guidelines being followed.
“As the due to the pandemic continues, we members of both the American Legion Post 264 and the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 3010 feel obligated to continue our annual service to honor those veterans who have passed before us,” said Robert Bruce, the American Legion Post 264’s public information officer and judge advocate.
“More than an obligation, it is an honor to recognize those veterans who have served and sacrificed for our great country,” Bruce said.
While adhering to physical distancing guidelines of staying at least six feet apart and wearing face coverings, the two groups will conduct services at each of the four cemeteries in the Lincoln Cemetery District.
Services will begin at the Sheridan Cemetery at 9 a.m., followed by services at the Manzanita Cemetery at 10 a.m. Services at t
he First Street Cemetery will be at 11 a.m. and the last service will be at the Santa Clara Cemetery off 3rd Street at noon.
The Sheridan Cemetery is at Ranch House Road and the Manzanita Cemetery is at Manzanita Road. The First Street Cemetery is at 1445 1st St. and Santa Clara Cemetery is at 250 Santa Clara Way.
Services will include a 21-gun salute followed by the playing of Taps. While the two post commanders will each say a few words during the services, there will be no guest speakers. The public is encouraged to attend the services while following physical-distancing guidelines.
